Micro Bully

History of the Dog

French bulldogs were bred with pocket bullies to achieve a small-sized and amazing dog breed which we know as Micro bully. They are designer breeds like other famous designer breeds, e.g. Mini Goldendoodle and Snickerdoodle. They carry the traits of the famous American bulldogs but the resulting breed has a much smaller size.

The dog lives an average life of 3 to 8 years which is due to smaller size and inherent health issues. Due to their shorter life span, most people don’t grade them the cheapest dogs. Achieving smaller and smaller size dogs resulted in some serious health issues for the said dog.

Appearance of the Micro Bully

The dog contains two different colors from a list of colors which are black, blue, brown, fawn, red, white, and gray. So, you won’t see them in tri-color. The most prominent mark of the said dog is white color on the chest and between the legs. White color can also be seen on the head at times.

If you’re looking for a perfect livestock guardian or protector, then you can easily find it from the breeders who are abiding by the UKC policies. You may find other breeders who have a good reputation for providing the said dogs to livestock owners in bulk.

Size of the Dog

The most promising thing about the Micro pocket bully is that it contains a very small size. The male maintains the height under 14 inches whereas the female maintains the height under 13 inches. Their weight is a bit reasonable as compared to their height. They usually carry the weight from 30 to 45 pounds.

The dog has a good-looking, distinct, and eye-catching look of small size and muscular build. People who are looking for a small size muscular dog, then say a dog can be a good option for them. Unfortunately, the American Kennel Club (AKC) doesn’t recognize them to date.

Coat Type and Length

Well! The breed has a very small coat length. The small coat of the dog inherently helps their owners to save the grooming time. Brushing for 2-3 times a week will be enough to maintain the look and feel of your amazing pet.

Another unique thing about the said pet is that they shed very low which is a good sign. But don’t treat them as a hypoallergenic dog like Moyen Poodle, white and Black Goldendoodle. People who are suffering from allergies should not adopt the dog as it isn’t completely hypoallergenic.

Micro Bullies Temperament

The dog has almost the same temperament as any other American Bully dog. But they aren’t active and high-energy dogs. You will seldom see them running and doing challenging tasks in the home. Instead, they live to sit and take some rest.

They are reliable companions due to their loving, calm, and loyal nature. Another benefit of taking them to a public park or any other social gathering place is that they don’t prey on or attempt to harm people and even other pets. So, if you’re in search of a company that is safe for others, then said dog can be a good choice.

The dog is very sensitive towards human behavior. So, if you want your dog to remain positive and loyal then include a positive reinforcement and reward system during training sessions. Like Australian Golden doodle, they get along with all family members and all types of pets, living in the house, without any resistance.

Behavior With Kids

The pet generally behaves well with the kids due to their laid-back temperament, mild energy level, and non-preying habits. You can leave your kids with the Micro Bullies without thinking but make sure that the kids don’t tease them. They can’t run for longer durations so they compliment calm children perfectly.

An important thing that should be kept in mind and taught to children as well is to not make noise when the dog is sleeping. Secondly, the pet shouldn’t be teased especially when it’s eating. Above mentioned situations can spark the dog and that’s why educating your kids and the pet is equally important to respect each other.

Behavior With Animals

The Micro Bullies treat well and show due respect to the dogs, cats, parrots, and other animals living in the house. They don’t have preying cravings like other dog breeds. So, you can leave them alone as they don’t pose any kind of threat to other pets.

One thing that should be remembered is that all micro-bullies don’t behave well. They need to be trained and educated well in time. Early socialization with all pets is very handy and helps them understand each other.

Are Micro Bullies Aggressive Dogs?

They are inherently non-aggressive and cooperative dogs. They are waiting for a moment to jump and sit on the lap of their owner. Similarly, they don’t have any threatening attitude towards kids and other pets.

If you have seen any aggressive dog from the said breed, then it’s purely due to a lack of socialization. Lack of training and socialization with the environment, family members, and pets can develop aggressive traits. So, if you’re touchy about the aggression of the dog, then spend a good amount of time on its training when it’s a puppy.

Does a Micro Bully Bark?

Remain completely relaxed as far as the barking of the dog is concerned. They bark very little and do it so when they are worried or need any kind of attention. You may listen to them barking when they aren’t provided food well in time or when children are unnecessarily teasing them.

Are They Affectionate?

Yes, they are exceptionally affectionate and loving dogs. They are used as therapy dogs by some people at times when trained well. They sleep with longer gaps and for longer durations so they are good cuddling pets for their owners.

The breed responds equally well to strangers but at times you may see them reluctant. But with minor effort and motivation the dog, will easily accept and start interacting even with strangers.

Are They Intelligent?

They aren’t intelligent like other intelligent dogs, e.g. Poodle, Red Golden Retriever and Mini Bernese Mountain Dog. You may find it difficult to train them in new tasks and commands. Well! That has a hidden advantage as they aren’t demanding and don’t cause much strain to other owners by destroying various household items.

A very intelligent dog needs extra mental and physical stimulation. But that is not the case for a teacup Micro Bully. They don’t even bother to ask or show panic signs for such kinds of demands. So, you can mold them as per your desires due to their average intelligence level.

Energy-Level of the Dog

They aren’t high-energy dogs. So a daily walk of around 20 to 30 minutes will be more than enough for the micro bullies. If you can’t accommodate half an hour of exercise sessions in a day, then a normal amount of walk will also work and even small walks for coming and going to the potty are enough at times.

If you’re living an active life and want to take your pet with you to a place in hot summers, then it will have a bad impact on the health of the micro exotic Micro Bully. Enormous exercise and lengthy training sessions should be avoided at all costs. The pet is good as long as it takes a good amount of rest instead of healthy activities.

Are They Easy to Train?

No, they are not easy to train at all. Their normal intelligence level and stubborn behavior make the training part very challenging. It isn’t very difficult if you remain patient throughout the session, give rewards frequently, and don’t become harsh at all.

Are They Good as Watch Dogs?

Mostly, they don’t resist much towards strangers. So expecting from micro American bully to protect as a watchdog is just a wish. The temperament of the dog varies from one to another even in the same breed.

The dog barks when he feels threatened or uncomfortable situation. So, it will alert you against any kind of threat but don’t expect more than that as it can’t do more than that.

Are They Suitable As Service or Therapy Dogs?

Micro Bullies can provide therapy services by cuddling with their owners. But they aren’t suitable as service dogs due to their stubborn behavior and difficulty in training. So, disabled people shouldn’t rely on said dogs.

Care and Grooming of the Dog

Care and grooming of the Micro Bullies is very easy as they have smaller size and short-length hair. Bathing them once a week is sufficient. They are more than happy when they go out for a walk.

As far as caring for the pets is concerned, their downsizing has made them vulnerable to various diseases. So, you need to take your pet to the veteran very often. Some dogs are healthy and their visit once in six months is enough.

Considerations During Regular Grooming

We don’t need to go for haircuts frequently as they have short hair and their hair growth rate is very low. A rubber grooming mitt and a bristle brush are useful for the grooming task. They don’t get dirty usually as they don’t run fast so give them bathe when they are dirty as excessive bathing is harmful.

Dental, ear, face, and nail care shouldn’t be ignored at any cost. If you dedicate half an hour daily to the grooming of your lovely Micro Bully, then you can easily complete all said tasks effectively.

How Much They Shed?

They aren’t hypoallergenic by all means but they shed very less. Don’t run here and there behind your dog in search of dead hairs lying on the floor. You will find dead hairs lying on the floor rarely. But never consider them shedding-free like other non-shedding dogs.

Health Problems of the Micro Bullies

They live shorter life spans due to bad health. The issue is breathing and regular pain in joints are two of the prominent diseases of the said dog. Massive body structure in comparison to its overall size causes an extra burden on elbow joints. So, you can feel their elbow pain as well.

It is generally believed that short-nosed dogs suffer from respiratory disease. The situation worsens for the mini American bully, especially during movement in summer, due to heavy body structure and difficulty in breathing.

Some other common health issues are as follows:

  • Heart disease
  • Allergies
  • Skin problems
  • Cherry eye
  • Hip dysplasia

Life Expectancy of the Pet

They fall prey to various diseases from a very early age. So, their life expectancy is very low despite regular treatment and checkups. They usually live between 3 to 8 years.

Diet For The Dog

The chances of good health directly depend on a high-quality diet. The dog owner may show somewhat results for naturally healthy dogs but an organic diet including chicken, Omega-3, and egg shells should be included in the diet.

Should I Adopt the Micro Bully?

The dog is a small size, affectionate, calm, laid-back, and non-aggressive breed. It contains all traits of the American Bully but it hasn’t been recognized by AKC due to various health issues and non-standard size structure. The micro bullies can be used for services but can’t be relied on to guide disabled people due to stubborn personalities.

Their shorter life span is also a bottleneck for many people who want to adopt the said dog. They are amazingly cooperative and respectful towards children and kids. They don’t need much exercise and diet. So, if you can socialize them and adopt them as puppies, then they will turn out to be good companions.
